High-Pressure Slurry Pumping: Pemo Double and Triple Stage Pumps

Slurry pumpsPemo pumps

In slurry pumping, pressure is power. Some processes demand immense force to move dense, abrasive slurries over long distances or through filter presses, and standard single-stage slurry pumps often cannot generate the head these duties require. Pemo Pumps engineered a direct answer: double and triple stage slurry pumps purpose-built for high-pressure service.

Why Slurry Duties Need High Head

Head pressure represents the height to which a pump can lift a fluid, and several slurry applications demand a lot of it:

Where Single-Stage Pumps Run Out

A single impeller limits how much energy a pump can impart to the slurry. Pushing a single-stage pump beyond its designed pressure range causes predictable damage:

The Multi-Stage Answer

Pemo's double and triple stage pumps place multiple impellers in series, each stage boosting the slurry's pressure progressively. The first impeller draws slurry in and imparts the initial energy; the second takes the pressurized flow and raises it further; a third stage, where fitted, raises it again. The same principle drives multistage clean-water pumps, but building it for abrasive slurry is a different engineering problem, and it is Pemo's specialty.

Where They Fit

Built for the Duty, Not the Catalog

High-pressure slurry applications involve unique wear and material challenges. Pemo, manufacturing in-house since 1947, offers hard-alloy and elastomer-lined wet ends across sizes and configurations, and its engineers match impeller design and materials to the slurry's abrasiveness and chemistry. If the fluid is corrosive as well as abrasive, our chemical pump selection guide covers the material questions to answer first.

When high pressure is paramount, send the slurry properties, flow, and head, and we will confirm the staging and materials with the factory before we quote.
