Enhancing EMD Electronics' Wastewater Management with Vanton Pump Technology

The Challenge

EMD Electronics' wastewater lift station transfers waste solutions from onsite sumps to a wastewater accumulation tank. The station ran on three Serfilco CPVC pumps that were not compatible with recent additions to the plant's products: the new chemistry attacked the CPVC, and the service also carries waste solutions with settled solids. EMD Electronics turned to RE Merrill and Associates for a robust replacement.

The Results

The upgrade replaced three CPVC pumps with two Vanton polypropylene pumps and marked a significant improvement in EMD Electronics' wastewater management. The polypropylene proved an excellent match for the plant's chemistry, and the change delivered a more efficient system with better safety and reliability, uninterrupted operation, and reduced maintenance costs.

A dynamically balanced, keyed closed impeller on a stainless steel shaft fully sleeved in polypropylene, plus a strainer basket and water flush manifold, with wet shaft bearings of ceramic against Vanite and an external water flush for lubrication.

What motor drives them?

A 5 HP, 230-460 volt, 3-phase, 60 Hz, 1750 RPM TEFC C-face motor on each pump.
